Jacksonville Axemen Rugby League

Axemen Welcome Aussie Import Player Joe Bobbin

The Axemen are excited to welcome the newest import player, Joe Bobbin for the 2014 season. Born and raised on the South Coast of NSW, Australia, Bobbin began playing rugby league at age 16 with the Cooma Colts. Here he was coached by current Axemen coach Mat Keeley, and the Colts successfully won the Grand Final for the group 16 rep side. He then went on to play for the NRL club the Canberra Raiders where he played under 18’s and Toyota Cup under 20’s. Since 2010 Bobbin has also played in Queensland where the East Brisbane Tigers won the premiership in 2011, then back to NSW with the Albury Thunder and most recently with his home team the Bombala Blue Heelers.

Bobbin was interested to play rugby league in the US with the Jacksonville Axemen since hearing about his friend and former coach Mat Keeley’s great year with the Axemen in 2012. “When I heard he was returning to Jacksonville this season I wanted the chance as well,” says Bobbin. “I can’t believe this opportunity, and it’s my goal to win the National Championship with the Jacksonville Axemen this season.” Fans can welcome the teams newest import player to Jacksonville this Sat. May 10 at the Training Camp full contact scrimmage. Scrimmage time is 5pm at UNF’s Hodges Stadium followed by a post-game social at Time Out Sports Grill.
