Jacksonville Axemen Rugby League

The Jacksonville Axemen are excited to introduce Ben Nicoll as Coach for the 2016 season!

Originally from Junee and Canberra, New South Wales Australia, the halfback/hooker has played Rugby League since he was 5 years old. Rugby League has always been a huge part of his life as his Uncle is Laurie Daley. Daley is the current New South Wales State of Origin team coach and former Australian, NSW & Canberra Raiders Captain. Nicoll has experience playing Rugby League in England as well as with the Newcastle Competition in Australia but has spent most of his time in the Canberra Raiders Cup, most recently with the Queanbeyan Blues. During his time with the Blues he helped the club win the 2014 and 2015 First Grade Championships and was named Player Of The Year. Nicoll learned of the Jacksonville Axemen from friends of his who are former Axemen import players. “I heard about the team from players that I have played with over years such as Sean Rutgerson, Matt Keeley, Nathan Tait, Luke Gray, Josh Cock and Adrian Grayson so I have always wanted the opportunity to come and play for this great club,” says Nicoll. “I’m looking forward mostly to coaching, as this will be my first time as player/coach, and am excited to combine the local talent the Axemen already have with our two other import players, Billy (Rogers) and Liam (Anlezark), who are also from Australia. Of course I would like to bring the Championship back to Jacksonville, but I’d also like to help build the club, not just at the senior level but also junior level by running a few training camps for the kids.” Nicoll is married with a 4 year old daughter, enjoys traveling and meeting new people along the way. “Along with the hard work I’d like to bring a fun style of football to the Axemen this season and when the serious stuff is over enjoy a cold beer with the fans and enjoy the experience.”
