Jacksonville Axemen Rugby League

When Firehouse Subs Jacksonville Axemen co-owner Spinner Howland put a bounty on the biggest hit made in each game there was no surprise when prop Jaime Uyttewaal was the first player to claim the cash. He’s been distributing big hits on Axemen opponents for the past 4 years and has shown no signs of letting up this season.  Jaime is a native Floridian, raised in New Smyrna Beach by his mother Petronella Uyttewaal, who is from the Netherlands.  Although he never played Rugby of any kind before joining the Axemen, Jaime was no stranger to physical and mental toughness. He was in the United States Marine Corps as an artillery cannoneer/primary marksman instructor/marine corps martial arts instructor from 2000-2004. Former Axemen and DC Slayers Coach Danny Hanson and his wife Heather pushed him to try out for the Axemen in 2008 and he has been a starter on the team ever since. “I couldn’t have picked a better group of guys to play the toughest sport the world has to offer with” says Jaime. His most memorable moment with the team was beating the then powerhouse team New Haven Warriors in the playoffs in 2009, along with beating them again in 2010 and winning the National Championship.  Jaime is most looking forward to playing Philly on their home field in two weeks. “I missed that trip due to injury last year and I want to smash them on their home turf pretty badly.
