Former NSW Origin Player Joins The Axemen
This past week the Jacksonville Axemen got some truly electrifying news. What has already started as a strong season for the team, fielding one of the strongest and most talented sides in recent years, is about to get even stronger. This week, the Axemen will be welcoming Ryan “Ryno” O’Hara to the lineup. Ryno’s rugby league rap sheet, so to speak, is one of the longest and highest caliber we’ve seen. He’s played in such comps as the NRL under the banner of the Canberra Raiders as well as the world famous State of Origin Series, playing for New South Wales (perhaps you’ve heard of them).
Speaking to Ben Nicoll, the current Player-Coach of the Axemen about the prospect of having a player like Ryno on the roster only continues the mounting excitement for the season and the future of the league. “Having Ryno play for the Axemen is huge” Nicoll remarked when asked, “he’s a huge signing for the league.” Furthermore, outside of the current season’s competition and the impact Ryno will have, Nicoll looked to the future as well hoping that Ryno’s signing to the league would usher in “a start of Ex-NRL and Super league stars wanting to be involved in this competition.”
Ryan O’Hara will make his debut with the Jacksonville Axemen in the first home game of the season this Saturday June 18th against the Tampa Mayhem. Kick off is 5:30pm at the UNF Soccer fields next to Hodges Stadium. Come out and watch your Axemen as they fight to defend their spot at the top of the South Division standings.
