Game Preview: Round 6
The Dr. Clayman Plastic Surgery Center Jacksonville Axemen will go up against the Tampa Mayhem this weekend in the last regular season home game of the year. The Axemen remain undefeated so far in the USARL Southern Conference, and have secured the top position and a home playoff game on July 26th. Tampa, who lost to the Axemen in the first round of the season are eager to get a second crack at the Axemen and cause some Mayhem at Hodges Stadium.
Axemen Co-Owner and General Manager Drew Slover says the team is preparing for a tough match and a chance to extend the win streak. “The Axemen have not lost a regular season home game since 2008 and it’s not a record that has come easily. Rugby League is a tough sport every game is a battle. I have no doubt Tampa will come out fighting, especially when a redemption win is at stake.”
Coach Mat Keeley is confident that the Axemen are ready to return to the field after the holiday break. “The boys enjoyed the time off; we had a few guys carrying injuries so we should be fresh for Tampa this weekend. The Tampa Mayhem are a physical team and after we played them in the first round I had said they are only going to get better. As I told the players last week, we are far from our best, and our plan for the team this weekend is to focus on doing the little things right and put yourself in positions to help another team mate out.”
The Axemen will defend their regular season home game win streak this Saturday July 12 against the Tampa Mayhem. Game time is 5pm, gates open at 4:30 at UNF Hodges Stadium. As always, the event will have full concessions, $2 Bud Lights, and feature lovely Axe Maiden cheerleaders.
