Jacksonville Axemen Rugby League

The USA Pioneers vs. Leeds Rhinos game again saw some firsts for Rugby League in the USA, including a new sponsor that impressed the VIP’s

Although the scoreline of 76 to 0 was not what the Pioneers had hoped for, the experience gained by the players from across the USA Rugby League domestic competition was invaluable. 10 teams were represented on the Pioneers squad, and all have now taken the skills learned and excitement from the event back to share with their teammates. The game also provided an opportunity for the coaching staff, that featured Robin Peers from Boston, Craig Howitt and Gaz Walker from the Warriors and Danny Hanson from the DC Slayers, to find a common path for future teams. It was a great chance to get a number of coaches on the same page with a scheme, that will pay dividends for future representatives teams.

Off the field current Jacksonville Axemen sponsor Fabian Videla, who owns and operates Smarter Remodeling Contracting, partnered with TRES LECHES EATERY from Riverside, to provide some of the best food offered in the VIP area to date. “I knew something good was on offer when I walked up to the VIP tent and the first two people wanted to talk about the sandwiches rather than the game that was about to start”, said Spinner Howland. Tres Leches Eatery is located at 869 Stockton Street, Jacksonville, FL 32204. Ph – (904) 551-4375.

Of course the most important part of the game was to ensure that the Leeds Rhinos got everything they needed from it as part of their pre-season training camp, and based on the multiple reviews from the Coaching Staff and Players, it is apparent that the USA Rugby League, the Jacksonville Axemen, UNF and the fans from the Jacksonville area, have provided a first class experience. Brian McDermott hailed the camp as “The Best Yet” – http://www.therhinos.co.uk/news/25437.php
