Axemen Face Loss To Kings in 2025 National Championship
After a truly remarkable season from a resilient Axemen squad, Jacksonville was ultimately defeated by the Brooklyn Kings in the National Championship. The game took place on August 9th, 2025 in Jacksonville at the University of North Florida.
The Kings scored twice early to take the lead, but the Axemen fought hard and took the lead just after the half with a score of 12-10. A strong Brooklyn side answered back swiftly and started capitalizing on Axemen mistakes and penalties. They scored 4 more tries in the second half including penalty kick to extend the lead to 34-12.

David Washington closed out the game for the Axemen with one last try, and the conversion was good to bring the final score 34-18. Although it was a disappointing end to the season, the Axemen showed growth with a young team of players.
“Congrats goes out the the Brooklyn Kings on the 2025 title” said Drew Slover, co-founder and General Manager of the Axemen. “They have a team packed with experience and talent, and it showed today on the field.” Slover has high expectations for the Axemen in the coming years, however. “This was a really great season where we had so many new young players. Coach Sean Rutgerson really did some great coaching and making it to the Championship game is truly something to be proud of. Our goal never changes though, and we’ll be back in 2026 for another National Championship run.”
In the off-season several of the Axemen players and staff will compete with the USA Hawks in two upcoming international events against Jamaica and Scotland. The Jacksonville Axemen will resume in April 2026 for training camp, details TBD.
