Jacksonville Axemen Rugby League

Axemen Win Big in First Game of the Season

The Jacksonville Axemen kicked off the season with a big win over the newly formed South Florida Speed. After weeks of training and a positive showing at the Naples 9s tournament, the Axemen were able to finally put their hard work together on the field.

Jacksonville kept control the entire game, and played solid defense with a final 80-0 score. Tries were scored by Vashon Marrs, Josh Jackson, James Williams, Tony Robinson, Luke Findlay, Mason McCrory, David Washington, Terrence James, and a hat trick with three tries from Kevin Wathen. Luke Findlay was good for 12 of his 14 conversions.

Coach Sean Rutgerson was happy with the result and the efforts of both teams. It should be mentioned, that the South Florida Speed is only in their second season, and although they compete in rugby union events as well, they are relatively new to Rugby League. “The Axemen played well and the game was played in good spirit. We had a good first hit out. South Florida hung in there for the full 80 minutes and is continuing to improve their game.”
